The 10k race is by far the most popular distance of them all and attracts huge levels of runners. While this distance poses a challenge for even experienced runners, it’s not so far to put off even beginner runners. 6.2 miles is a middle ground between the next race distance of the half marathon, which is a lot more daunting a challenge when you’re just starting out.
The world records for the 10k road distance are men 26:44 min (Leonard Komon) and women 29:43 (Joyciline Jepkosgei).
The longest running 10k event was first held in 1897, the Bechovice-Praha race.
